6th Annual Sarah’s Cure

This year's Sarah's Cure Benefit will take place on October 8, 2011 at Bono's Chop House & Saloon in Decatur, TX.

Click here to purchase tickets online.

Our 12 year old daughter, Sarah Jo, was diagnosed with Classical Galactosemia seven days after birth. Galactosemia is often confused as a milk allergy or intolerance, when indeed it is a life-long genetic disorder that affects only one in 80,000. Some of the possible side effects are enlarged liver, kidney failure, cataracts and brain damage.

Sarah is missing the enzyme that breaks down the carbohydrates lactose and galactose. Lactose and galactose are found in many foods including some fruits, vegetables, meats, almost all processed foods, and many children’s medications.

Currently there is no cure for Galactosemia. The only thing we can do is try to eliminate these toxins from her diet. Even with a restricted diet, children still experience speech and language problems, fine and gross motor skills development delays, specific learning disabilities and premature ovarian failure.

Classical Galactosemia is considered an “Orphaned Disease”, which means that very little money is put into medical research to find a treatment or cure. This certainly is very disheartening and scary for the parents of children with this disorder which affects us so personally.

In a continued effort to fund research, the 6th Annual Sarah’s Cure Benefit Concert / Silent Auction is set for October 8, 2011. The concert and silent auction will be held at Bono's Chop House & Saloon in Decatur, TX. This year’s event features Johnny Lee, Jason Boland & The Stragglers, and much more.

* Bono's will have food and a full bar available. *
* No outside food or coolers allowed. *

Proceeds from this benefit will go directly towards research for treatment or a cure for Galactosemia via Galactosemic Families of the Southern States (GFSS) (www.galactosemiasupport.org), a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.

We again need to be blessed with your attendance, monetary donations, and auction donations. All donations are tax-deductible and checks should be made payable to “GFSS”.
