4th Annual Sarah’s Cure
2009 Sarah’s Cure 5K Run and Music Festival each set new records for attendance. Among the record attendees list was PGC president Michelle Fowler from Louisiana, PGC board member Maureen Bell from Pennsylvania, Mark and Denise Wilburn and family from Illinois, and Christy Edwards from Kansas. There were also families from all parts of Texas all of which volunteered their time and hard work to put on another successful fundraiser.
Sarah’s Cure was held in Decatur, TX on October 17, 2009. The day began with a 5K Run Walk and a Kid’s K. 25 children participated in the Kid’s K and 150 people ranging in age from 12 to 72 ran the 5K. Awards were given to overall winners and medals to the top three in each age group.
The evening was filled with Texas Country Music featuring Josh Abbott and Reckless Kelly. A silent and live auction brought in lots of money and was entertaining as always. One of the many highlights of the live auction was a registered Australian Shepherd puppy that fetched $1900. The live auction alone brought in over $15,000.
Everyone had tons of fun and left exhausted. GFSS families helped run the hamburger and hotdog stand, the bounce house, t-shirt sales, and silent auction. There were over 1000 people in attendance and Sarah’s Cure brought in $38,000 that will go directly towards finding a cure or treatment for galactosemia.
Sarah’s Cure has generated over $158,000 in the four years of existence. Finding a cure for galactosemia is our passion and together with everyone’s efforts in fundraising, we will achieve this goal for our children. Let’s keep fighting and fundraising!!
Sincerely,
Mark and Jo Beth Southard, and Sarah’s Cure Committee
